Sticky: From the Vicar – Fr. John Sanderson – resumption of public worship

GOOD NEWS – PUBLIC WORSHIP RESUMES

The Commonwealth Government recently announced a ‘Roadmap to a COVIDSafe Australia’ and a ‘3 Step Framework For A Covidsafe Australia,’ which is to be implemented in accordance with the State Government’s Restricted Activity Directions (No 7), which we (the parish) implement in accordance with the Archbishop’s Diocesan Covid-19 Update of 13 May 2020.

What does this mean for us at St Georges? We can resume public worship, subject to the provision of the documents above, which means no more than 10 parishioners plus clergy and those required to operate the service in attendance. We are required to maintain social distancing, but may resume receipt of the Sacrament in one form. There are also some other requirements around cleaning and recording of attendance which I have in hand.

We will resume public worship on Sunday 24 May 2020, the Seventh Sunday of Easter with the following services:

  • 7.30am Morning Prayer
  • 8am Holy Communion
  • 10am Holy Communion live streamed via Facebook.

Our midweek service of Holy Communion resumes at 10am Wednesday on 27 May 2020.

If you would like to attend any of these services please contact me by telephone or text. There is no pressure on you to physically return to church if you do not believe it is appropriate for you to do so. Please join us online for a live streamed service.

As we prepare to resume public worship let us think of all those who are connecting with us via the parish website, Facebook (97 followers) the YouTube channel, and who routinely view our streamed services (over 100 on Facebook and 45 on YouTube) each week and how we may connect with them.

Another observation for our prayerful consideration. It has been interesting to see how many people wander up to look in the church when all the doors were opened to ventilate the space. If you are interested in spending some time in church to ensure that it can remain open during the week then please contact me as soon as possible. Tea, coffee and NBN access provided to those who do.

These are exciting times to welcome people to our church and community.

Fr. John
